QIQIHAR-LAND OF CRANES

　　Lying in the central and west of the Songnen Plain in Heilonjian Provice,
Qiqihar faces Daqing,the city of oil,in the south and borders Heihe,a  border
city,on the north.Qiqihar is an economic and cultural center and a communicat
ions hub of west Heilongjiang.Inthe Qing Dynasty(1644-1911)it was the area co
mmand of Heilongjian,and in the early days of the People's Republic of China,
it served as the capital of Heilongjiang Provice.Now Qiqihar has a jurisdicti
on over seven districts and nine counties and is inhabited by 36 ethnic guoup
s including ans,Mongols,Koreans,Manchus,Huis,Daurs,Ewenkis,Oroqens, Kirghizes
and Xibes.
